In Sacramento, State Senator Gloria Romero has authored a bill that will allow Tribe's to fine anyone who comes into areas deemed "Indian Lands" which includes other Indians.
Please read this article from the LA Weekly.
If you find that this is an outrage like I do, then you should get on the phone to your California State Legislative Senators and Assemblymen before it's too late to stop it from becoming yet another law that gives Tribes too much authority over their former relatives and the rest of us.
hil-le hil-le bryan...
it is good to see your postings...and yes, the passage of this bill will have a huge impact on all of california indian country--including those never recognized, those disenrolled, and those in moratorium...
this bill will also be used by corrupt tribal governments to instill fear in the people remaining on the land...it is a clear plan to utilize the threat of displacement in order to maintain the silence of the oppressed...not only may one lose their federal recognition, but one may be banished from their own ancestral and historical lands--a violation which is being done now here in california each and every day--with the formal "blessing" of california law...
let us remember...the "Tribes" as they exist today, may have laws enacted to "give too much authority to Tribes over their former relatives and the rest of us" but they will NEVER have authority over our--and their-- ancestors...
what is in store for those who violate their own people, their own blood, and their own history cannot be controlled by enactment of "law"...there is a law greater than that which money can buy, and those responsible will know the consequences of destroying the traditional circle of our people...
